As the CEP dispute intensifies, TFEU makes an offer to bring
some stability and calm by offering a contract rollover and
a 2.5% salary increase for TFEU members. This offer was rejected
by the BCTF. See
our letter here.![]()
All TFEU members laid off by the employer when it locks out CEP staff. TFEU grievance on this issue in progress, but BCTF is way behind agreed deadlines on this and other grievances.
In light of the BCTF seeking concessions from CEP, TFEU requests that the BCTF make clear its aims in bargaining with TFEU by tabling its general demands first. This request was rejected by the BCTF.
The protocol agreement was signed on September 26, 2007 and included an agreement that TFEU would not use BCTF communication channels for communication with BCTF members.
The Negotiating Committee has had a commitment to bargaining
a fair and equitable contact. A substantial amount of research
has taken place in work/life balance issues
and
through reviewing other union contracts and discussions with
other related unions. Meetings have been held with supervisors,
IS, the Job Evaluation Committee, part-time employees, and
many other individual TFEU members as needed. The Bargaining
Committee wishes to thank all TFEU members who have met with
us or conducted research to support TFEU bargaining.
More intense bargaining period.
The employer presented the union with a package
proposal
on
December 13, 2007 and asked us to take it to our members for
consideration. A
membership meeting was held the same day and the following
motions were presented and passed overwhelmingly:
That the bargaining team’s counter proposal
to the employer’s Option B is endorsed by the membership and we call on the BCTF executive to respond to it.
That the TFEU bargaining team should aim to conclude negotiations by December 15 if a satisfactory agreement can be reached. If the bargaining team is not prepared to recommend acceptance of an agreement by December 15, they are authorized to continue bargaining in January 2008.
On
December 14, 2007, TFEU presented a counter
proposal
to
the employer’s package.
BCTF broke off negotiations until January 2008 after refusing to discuss TFEU’s counter proposal on December 14, 2007.
TFEU sends letter
to BCTF Executive Committee and BCTF Negotiating Committee
with our concerns regarding the bargaining process to date.
Both sides agreed to return to bargaining table on January 10–11, 2008.
In light of the BCTF retracting the signing bonus offer, TFEU presented a counter salary proposal. It was rejected, in whole.
TFEU presented their concerns about the BCTF not following
the “principles of unions” and questioned whether
it was really their intent to bargain fairly to achieve a fair
and equitable collective agreement. TFEU provided information
to
the employer regarding our concerns over the lack of a fair
salary increase and the proposed cut of new hire retiree benefits.
